(See previous post ‘Reading Rules!‘)
My favorite thing(s) about Vogue: the ads. This wasn’t always so. About 5 years ago I signed up for a 1 year subscription thinking “i’m in fashion, i must read Vogue.” only to be sorely disappointed when it started arriving and there was nothing in it i cared to read. So i canceled, but then i got an offer of 1 year for $7 so i started back up again. What i learned the second time around: Vogue is about the ads. Really, that’s all that’s in there. Dozens and dozens of pages aimed at selling you not just stuff, but a story. I begin to love trying to find key trends among the different brands and put together what themes were emerging throughout the magazine.

Vogue’s September issue is the largest they put out every year. They even made a documentary film about it.

When you look at the above picture, what do you think? My guess is that you’re thinking what she’s wearing doesn’t match. And in my opinion, you’re right. I would never tell you to try and pull this outfit off. What i see when i look at this picture: prints. This picture is telling me that wearing prints is important, and it’s telling me that not just one kind of print, but all kinds are acceptable. From her jacquard sleeve to the bold geometric pattern in her skirt, snake skin boots, and if you look closely, you can see the stripes on her socks.
My least favorite thing about Vogue: the articles. All of the articles are about some random designer- most that i’ve never heard off- or some random gala. If i worked for a designer label maybe i would pay more attention to this sort of information but as my customer doesn’t care who these people are, i don’t really care either.
